“The Ombudsman in the state of Victoria basically say she that the government needs an elbow every now and then because she came out and said, you know what, 10,000 Victorian small businesses that were eligible to get support, didn’t receive it, because maybe a typo on the online form. Now some of those businesses have already failed. Those that are still going can now reapply and hopefully potentially get bit of an extra lifeline.”

Bill Lang joined Holly Stearnes from Ticker News to discuss the latest in small business.

In your opinion, how is Australian Business coping at the moment? In your opinion? How do we think we check in with these each week? How are we going this week?

Bill Lang – Small Business Australia

Yeah, I think overall things are quite positive. There’s been a little bit of a dent in the last week around the consumer confidence. So again, things like these panic lockdowns don’t help.

There’s a lot of looking forward towards what’s the budget going to be like the federal budget in a couple of weeks time, particularly around still certain industries and certain geographic areas that are still in a lot of pain. We saw only yesterday, the Ombudsman in the state of Victoria basically say she that the government needs an elbow every now and then because she came out and said, you know what, 10,000 Victorian small businesses that were eligible to get support, didn’t receive it, because maybe a typo on the online form. Now some of those businesses have already failed. Those that are still going can now reapply and hopefully potentially get bit of an extra lifeline.

And again, as we say every week Holly, Australians are being fantastic. They’re supporting local businesses, continue to get out there, pull some money out of your pocket or touch and pay however you might be doing it and continue to support and encourage the small business people which are the foundation and fabric of every local community.

Holly Stearnes

Absolutely. Here here, what a great way to finish. Thank you so much, Bill for your time, as always appreciate it. Take care.

Bill Lang

Thanks, Holly.

Holly Stearnes

Bill Lang. There.
